Urban Living Lab Center Summer School
Date: 22-24 August 2023
Location: Potsdam
Hosts of Regional and Thematic Hubs of the Urban Living Lab Center (ULLC) are coming together for a Summer School in Germany August 22nd to 24th, 2023.
The Urban Living Lab Center is the first Collaborating Center of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). It is co-hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Technische Universität Berlin (Technical University of Berlin, TUB), the Wuppertal Institute, and regional partner universities and network partners.
The ULLC is a transformative collaboration platform for urban climate action and this workshop will help operationalizing the Regional and Thematic Hubs of the ULLC. These hubs, based at partner institutions in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, will play a pivotal role in expediting sustainable urban development solutions at the local and regional level. Among their main objectives is to deliver training on business models and policy recommendations to create maximum co-benefits between air quality, climate change, and other sustainable urban development goals.
Key Components of the Workshop:
Joint Vision and Work Programme: Over 20 partner universities and network partners, the co-hosts of regional and thematic hubs, will come together to work on a joint vision and work programme.
Tailored Learning Activities: The workshop will facilitate the development of blended and in-person learning activities specific to each region, as well as training centers for academic and professional programmes.
Accelerating Sustainable Urban Development: The Regional Hubs will devise measures to maximize benefits across key sectors, including energy and resources within sustainable urban development.
Opportunities for Education and Research: The Thematic Hubs will facilitate exchange across the region on applied research, learning, exchange, and capacity building on key urban topics.
The workshop is the first in a series of exchanges which will be facilitated with co-development partners as part of the Urban Change Maker programme, gathering of minds focused on implementing action-oriented urban development projects, boosting impact and minimizing duplications. Similar formats will follow with start-up and industry partners, civil society organisations, local and national governments as well as funding agencies.
